Dotsero, Sweetwater & Ranches

Sweetwater is a community located in western Eagle County Colorado, including parts of Garfield County that serve as the gateway to the Flat Tops. The now abandoned Sweetwater railroad station is located in Eagle County, approximately 8 miles north of I-70, along the Union Pacific Railroad at the intersection of the Colorado River and the River Road, at the Roundup River Ranch.

Sweetwater originated in the early 1900’s as a center of commerce for ranching operations, primarily the shipment of cattle. The settlement had major corrals, scales, and a railroad siding. The railroad stop was used until the 1970s. The area has always been popular for recreation and hunting.

Homeowners enjoy the abundance of fresh air and ranch and farm land. There is buffalo ranch near the Sweetwater Ranch and generous water which keeps the area so green in the warmer months.
