Avon is a great place for both residents and visitors. Whether skiing, hiking, paddling the Eagle River or enjoying a leisurely day in town, you’ll find that launching your mountain adventures from this Eagle County town is easy and convenient.

With 6,500 year-round residents, plus another 3,500 part-time residents, this small Colorado mountain town offers many recreational and outdoor amenities. The town serves as a gateway to the world-class Beaver Creek Resort and is eight miles west of world-famous Vail. Avon also offers a multitude of recreational opportunities, special events, parks, open space and trails, and a mix of local and national shops and restaurants.

What to Do

Summer Recreation Opportunities
In the summer, the 48-acre Harry A. Nottingham Park offers fun for the whole family. Rent a paddle boat, fish or swim in the lake, walk around the park, or just relax on the grass and bask in the sunshine. In addition, the town offers a diverse line-up of vibrant arts, education and cultural events to enjoy at the Nottingham Park Pavilion and along the Main Street Mall.

Across from the park is Avon’s Recreation Center, a 40,000 square foot facility with a 140 foot indoor water slide, 5-lane lap pool, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, and much more. Looking for a little more adventure? A short walk down the road will bring you to the Eagle River where three river features provide beginning, intermediate and advanced surfing opportunities for kayakers.   Take a stroll or bike along the river on the Eagle Valley Trail, running along the river’s edge, through town to either Edwards or Eagle Vail and beyond.

Winter Recreation Opportunities
In the winter, the town is a great base for all your snow-oriented activities. A quick trip on our free bus will bring you to Avon Station, the town’s transportation hub, where you can catch the new Riverfront high-speed gondola directly to Beaver Creek Landing. You’ll be on the mountain in just minutes!

No matter what time of year you come, Avon is the place to be!
